Like I Do Every Day

by Hugh D’Alton Bradley

I walked across the bridge today,

Along the Liffey on my way,

I walked across the bridge today,

As I do every day.

I saw the smoke rising high,

From the rooftops to the sky,

And then I thought, “I’m gonna die.”

I walked across the bridge today,

Along the Liffey on my way,

I walked across the bridge today,

Like I do every day.

A blazing fire dancing in the streets,

Soldiers driving in their Jeeps.

Shells beat at the walls

As the Four Courts start to fall.

I walked across the bridge today

Along the Liffey on my way,

I walked across the bridge today

Like I do every day.
